The TASQC TB Treatment Access and Prevention (TASQC TB TAP) program is being implemented in support of The Ministry of Health & Child Care by JF Kapnek Zimbabwe in partnership with OPHID, with the support of USAID to scale up case detection and improve treatment success of individuals with TB.

Geographical location:

  • TASQC Districts (Masvingo, Gutu, Zaka, Chivi, Mwenezi, Chiredzi)
  • Midlands (Gokwe South, Gweru, Kwekwe, Mberengwa) 
  • Manicaland (Buhera, Chipinge, Makoni, Mutare, Mutasa)

JF Kapnek is working in selected districts in Masvingo and Midlands provinces.

Key Objectives:

  • Increase TB Treatment coverage to above 90% through intensive TB case detection at both facility and community levels.
  • Increase treatment success rate to 90%.
  • To achieve universal HIV testing and ART coverage for TB patients
  • To cumulatively detect DR/TB.
  • To increase treatment success rate for DR TB from 43%. Target is 75%.
  • Reduce the proportion of households facing catastrophic costs to 80%.
  • To increase the proportion of children diagnosed with TB to 12%

Purpose: To scale up approaches to improve case detection and treatment outcomes for people with TB. The program will contribute to the achievement of the following results:

1. Improved access to high-quality, person-centred TB, DR-TB and TB/HIV services

  • Use of Find TB Actively Separate Safely and Treat (FAST) approach implemented through intensified case finding at both community and facility levels
  • Use Clinical-Lab Interface (CLI) approach to improve quality and quantity of specimens sent to the Laboratory
  • TB Contact Tracing
  • Addressing TB among high-risk populations
  • TB Preventive Therapy (TPT)

2.  TB service delivery platforms strengthened

  • HCW capacity building through trainings, mentorship, supportive visits
  • Scale up of diagnostic services – CXR, use of standardised national Xpert MTB/RIF diagnostic algorithm etc
  • Infection Prevention Control

3.  TB disease transmission and progression reduced

  • Adherence counselling & psychosocial support, patient education and adherence preparation
  • Infection control

4.  Improve generation, dissemination, and use of strategic information for TB Program Development.
